Three Embraces

Three Embraces: Recognize, Allow, Bless

A simple, compassionate way to meet your experience with clarity, kindness, and care.

The Three Embraces is a gentle practice for relating to difficulty. Instead of fighting what is happening inside, you learn to meet it in three simple steps: recognize it, allow it, and offer it kindness.

This practice can be used in moments of fear, sadness, tension, overwhelm, or self-judgment. It brings together awareness, acceptance, and compassion.

The Three Embraces

This practice is simple and direct. It can be done in a few seconds or expanded into a longer reflection.

Recognize — See clearly what is here.
Allow — Let it be here without resistance.
Bless — Offer kindness and care.

This is here… and it can be held in kindness.

1. Recognize

Begin by gently noticing what is present. You are not analyzing or judging. You are simply seeing clearly.

Use simple phrases:

  • There is fear.
  • There is sadness.
  • There is tension.
  • There is worry.
  • There is pressure.

This step creates space. You are no longer completely inside the experience. You are aware of it.

2. Allow

After recognizing, gently allow the experience to be here. This does not mean you like it. It means you are no longer fighting it.

Use simple phrases:

  • Let this be here.
  • This is allowed.
  • I can make space for this.
  • This belongs.

Allowing softens resistance and helps the nervous system settle.

3. Bless

The final step is to offer kindness to what is here. This is not forced positivity. It is a gentle, human response to difficulty.

Use simple phrases:

  • May this be held in kindness.
  • May I be gentle with this.
  • May this be understood.
  • May I care for this.

This step transforms your relationship to suffering. What was once rejected becomes supported.
